Kindergarten

At Indian Lake Central School, we believe in making learning a delightful adventure. In a recent, unique initiative, our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Walker, took our 1st-grade students on a captivating journey through the life cycle of a chick. The kindergarten students have been so excited through this process that Mrs. Walker wanted to share the excitement with more students and classes. This hands-on experience enriched their understanding of biology and ignited a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world.

Under Mrs. Walker's expert guidance, the class embarked on an exciting journey of chick incubation. Equipped with a state-of-the-art incubator acquired through a grant she secured, the students took the reins of their learning. They learned about the crucial role of a warm, controlled environment in the eggs' development and successful hatching. Their active involvement, from daily monitoring of temperature and humidity levels to understanding their impact on the chicks' growth, was a testament to their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.

The classroom was excited as the students eagerly gathered around the incubator. They were spellbound as Mrs. Walker explained how it replicates the natural rotation of eggs by a hen. This enchanting moment, a product of experiential learning, left a profound mark on their young minds. Now, they can barely contain their anticipation as they eagerly await the hatching of the chicks in a few days.

Mrs. Walker's innovative teaching approach not only imparted valuable scientific knowledge but also ingrained in the students lessons in patience, responsibility, and the beauty of life. Through such enriching experiences, our educators at Indian Lake Central School continue to foster a lifelong love for learning in our students, demonstrating that education is not just about facts, but about comprehending the world around us.
